Just Shoot Me. . . .
Did anyone else start the day with a 630am swim in Sydney Harbour fully dressed in a tuxedo??
It was the most fun I have ever had on a photo shoot and the pics look great.
After 2 days with the stylist and 1000 changes of clothes, it’s off to the hair stylist and then to the first shoot location. I think it’s going to be a long day.
You've got to run before you can walk!
This week treadmill.
Next week photo shoot for album cover.
Square eyes. . .
I’ve been going through hours of handy cam footage from the LA recording sessions today. My eyes are starting to burn.
I can’t wait to get this stuff edited together and up on YouTube. Hopefully it won’t take me too long.

Art for Art Sake
I’m off to Sydney next week to get the ball rolling on cover art for the album.
First Impressions
I played the new record to the label for the first time on thursday. I’m please to say, all the necessary heads were nodding in approval.
Mastering II - Bernie Grundman →
I should mention Bernie Grundman mastered the record. He has work on so many amazing records…Carol King’s “tapestry”, Steely Dan’s “Aja”, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, Prince’s “Purple rain” and the list goes on.
Mastering
Well the album has been mastered and it really sounds great. I heard the final version yesterday and have only just managed to wipe off the grin.
All Over Town [what a great day]
Today was the day that all the little tweaks and edits to the album mixes were getting done.
As I am now back in Brisbane and the mixing is happening in LA all the songs as they were completed, were going to be emailed to me so I could ultimately make sure I was happy with everything. At first I though I should stay close to home so I could keep an eye on my email and listen to everything in my...

NYE
The last of the mixes are coming together now. In a couple of days the record will be completely cooked. I think i have a song order and an album title ready to roll [TBC] so 2010 will kick of with cover artwork and videos. Then I will be itching to get out and do some live shows. Happy New Year!!!!
Happy Holidays
Well Helik is still down with the flu so it’s going to be a few more days before we get any more of the record mixed. As much as it’s killing me to wait, I have to admit I’ve quite liked having a few days to relax and enjoy the holidays. I’m both anxious and excited about what the new year will bring but I know one thing for sure. I cant wait to get out and play this new...
Man Down
The engineer is down with the flu so no more mixes until he can shake it off.
Side A.
About half the record is now mixed and I have been giving a few sneak previews over the weekend. I cant wait for it to finally be finished.
On the 1st day of. . .
Every day I get another finished mix to listen to. Tomorrow there is promise of 2. I’m loving this.
Expecting. . .
I just arrived home and am hoping to get another finished mix emailed to me very soon. I cant wait. Larry and Helik are working on Too Late For Heroes right now.
Christmas comes early. . .
I have been leaving all the things I cant take home with me today, like the two very cool bikes I bought at the beginning of my trip, around the apartment complex with notes from Santa.
More Mixing…
Just rolling into the studio now as the mix for the second song is coming together.
I spent the morning down on Venice Beach taking in the last of the Californian sunshine before it surrenders to winter and before I head for home on the weekend.
I have had so much fun making this album. LA has taken me by surprise too. I have been here so many times before but this time, having my own place by...
Listening
I am listening to the first mix right now. Helik has done such an amazing job engineering this record. It sounds so good.
Larry is doing more of that producer thing that he does. Not sure what it is exactly but at a guess it’s attention to deatail and the preservation of imperfection in equal measures.
Just a few more tweeks and the first song will be done.
hmmm??
I guess I should start to think about the order of the songs… and find myself an album title. This is the hardest part of the whole process.
Today
We had the lovely Kate Markowitz in the studio today adding some very nice backing vocals to a few tracks. That means every thing is recorded. Now we’re ready to start mixing.
Engineer of the Year
In all the excitement last night I forgot to mention Helik Hadar, who is engineering my new album, was nominated for a Grammy for Engineer of the Year with Al Schmit, who engineered my first album, for their work on Melody Gardot’s ‘My One and Only Thrill’.
Producer of the Year
The 2010 Grammy Award nominations were just announced and Larry Klein [who happens to be producing my record as I’m typing this very post] is up for producer of the year. Congratulations and good luck!
Congratulations are also in order for my new friend Luciana Souza who was nominated for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
TLFH
We’re working on To Late For Heroes today. I had forgotten how much extra stuff we recorded for this tune. A very hip reverse guitar effect, Mandolin, Pedal Steel, Wood Block, etc, etc. It sounds great.

I’m heading into the studio now to get started on recording backing vocals. I have a head full of harmony.
Back in the studio today after 6 days off. Feels good!
00-18C
I found a great old Martin 00-18C today in a little boutique guitar store in Sherman Oaks. I couldn’t help myself. It’s coming home with me.
Road Trip
Well as you can see from the pics I uploaded yesterday I have been on a bit of a road trip. LA to Palm Springs, then up through the Josua Tree National Park to Twentynine Palms. Josua Tree is beautiful. I stayed the night in the hotel that U2 stayed in when they shot their album cover out there.
Next morning I drove up through the Mojave Desert into Vegas. The desert is amazing. Such a great...
